If you have an old bolt around around or can get one that you like. Cut it off the handle as they tell you. Then drill a hole so it will fit and have someone that is real good at welding nail it.
Follow the idea's they have there because they are the ones that do it all the time..
Let me know if you have questions after you do it. Or during the chop. If you can get a bolt for your Mosin, keep the original one so if you want to change it back you can. If numbers match.
