The last few days I have been chatting with two guys that have Mosin Nagants. They said they were a fun weapon but not very good to group the shots. You can guess that got my mind running.
I asked them the normal questions about thoer weapons and then on to cleaning them.
I asked them if they had taken them down and removed the cosmolin.
They both said yes, but I didn't think they had. I asked them if i could look them over and as I did I took out my gun light and guess what I saw all thru the Mosin?
You got that right Cosmolin all over it inside everywhere. And burned on in the barrel and in the reciever.
I gave then a nice chat on all things to do with a Mosin and today they called me back after going out shooting. I told them a few other things to help but>>>>
They now have mosins that will hit a 4 inch group at 300 yards. Not bad so now they are going over the Mosins and will have a lot more fun with them.
Folk, the cosmolin will throw you off when you fire, Head space ect.
Anyone have a story about cleaning thier Mosin and what are you useing?
I had them use boiling water to begin with then Amonia then on the the cleaning.
Guy's and Gal's, when you clean the bore of your Mosin Nagant and you think it is pitted, CLEAN THE BORE.
A freind of mine told me his was pitted and he thought it was a good bore. I ran some remington 40x bore cleaner down it and I am still cleaning up the mess. It is still dirty but we can see the groves.
The ammo is very dirty and you have to brush the barrel many times.
I can't even befieve he didn't see it. No names cause he will join soon.
But it is just a dirty barrel when you know it was good and you firered ony a 100 or so shells threw it.
Please clean your barrels. It will bring in the shot group by two inches at least.
at your local dollar store or dollar tree you can get a product called "LA's TOTALY AWESOME!" it is a industrial strength cleaner that was originally formulated to clean aircrafts and aircraft engines. the bottle says to severely dilute it before use, but i have found if you use it straight it EATS through any residual yuck in any firearm without harming the bore or finish. best part a bottle of is costs $1.05 with tax
OK, I tried this stuff for of a $1.00.
Works better than anything to include brushes. Buy it folks. My wife has now used also all over the house and car and this stuff is great. Get the clear bottle and not the other.
Ok, I've been telling all of you about the dirty Mosin that covered the twists with junk and looked like it was a bad barrel. That was how I got this one the other day.
Long story short. After brushing it and foaming it it was OK.
I just used the cal all cleaner and it shines. Yes shines and it looks better than any of mine now.
Try it folks.
